Indian pilot Smit Machchhar is getting worldwide praise after surviving a shocking cockpit attack and saving a Flydubai flight. Israel PM Benjamin Netanyahu has now called him a hero and invited him to Israel’s Independence Day celebrations.

Indian pilot Captain Smit Machchhar is being called a real-life hero after a shocking incident on his flight. On September 30, Captain Smit was flying Flydubai Flight FZ1073 from Dubai to Tel Aviv. During the flight, his own co-pilot suddenly attacked him inside the cockpit.
Captain Smit suffered serious injuries to his head. Even after getting badly hurt, he fought back and managed to control the plane.His quick action helped save hundreds of passengers.
Now, Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has personally called Smit. Machchhar and praised him for his bravery. Netanyahu called him a “hero for the entire world.” He also invited Captain Smit and Prime Minister Narendra Modi to Israel’s Independence Day celebrations.
Netanyahu Invites Captain Smit Machchhar To Light Independence Day Torch
Netanyahu has also invited Captain Smit to light the Independence Day torch in Israel. This is Israel’s highest civilian honour. Usually, only local citizens get this respect. However, Netanyahu believes the whole country will welcome the Indian pilot with open arms.
There is just one small catch. According to The Times of Israel, a special committee must approve the request first.
What Happened Inside The Flydubai Cockpit?
Captain Smit is currently recovering in hospital. He said everything was normal at first, and the co-pilot had asked for a short break to pray. But suddenly, the co-pilot attacked him from behind. The attack left Captain Smit with serious head injuries, and his vision became blurry.

At the same time, the plane started going down quickly. Despite being badly injured, Captain Smit managed to open the cockpit door. Passengers and crew members then rushed inside and caught the co-pilot.
Captain Recovering After The Attack
The plane later made an emergency landing in Tabuk, Saudi Arabia. Thankfully, everyone on board was safe. UAE government has called the incident a terrorist act. Authorities are now investigating what happened and why the co-pilot attacked the captain.
