India’s Youth Got Called “Cockroaches” — So They Started a Political Party

India’s CJI called unemployed youth cockroaches in a Supreme Court hearing. Within 48 hours, those same youth had a party, a manifesto, a website, an election symbol and 80,000 members. This is the full story.

What Is the Cockroach Janata Party?

The Cockroach Janata Party is a satirical political movement that took social media by storm after comments by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant during a court hearing sparked online controversy. The movement now claims to represent unemployed and frustrated youth through humour, satire and online activism.

On May 15, 2026, during a hearing on fake law degrees, the CJI said — “There are youngsters like cockroaches, who don’t get any employment and don’t have a place in a profession. Some of them become media, some of them become RTI activists, and they start attacking everyone.”

The remark was meant for people using fake credentials to enter the legal profession. But once it spread online, millions of young Indians felt it was aimed directly at them — the unemployed, the digitally active, the people using RTI and journalism to question the system. Instead of getting offended quietly, they built a party.

Who Founded Cockroach Janata Party?

Abhijeet Dipke, a digital content creator and political commentator, founded the Cockroach Janata Party on May 16, 2026 — the day after the CJI’s remarks went viral. He now carries the title of Founding President.

Dipke originally from Aurangabad, Maharashtra, studied journalism in Pune before moving to the United States for a master’s degree in Public Relations at Boston University. He also worked with the social media team of the Aam Aadmi Party between 2020 and 2022.

“The Cockroach Janta Party was supposed to be a joke. But I had not expected it would draw such an encouraging response. Seems the youth of our country identify with it,” Dipke said.

What Is the CJP Website?

The CJP website — cockroachjantaparty.org — went live on May 16, 2026. Its tagline reads: “Voice of the Lazy and Unemployed.” The website is where people can officially register as members and access the party’s manifesto and five-point agenda.

What Is the Cockroach Janata Party Manifesto?

The five-point agenda carries a pointed set of democratic demands — including full accountability under the RTI Act. A constitution was drafted. A virtual Gen Z National Convention was also proposed.

The manifesto itself uses a humorous tone. One line reportedly reads: “Read it once. Read it twice. Then send it to someone who needs to read it.” While many viewed the manifesto as pure satire, others felt it raised genuine concerns about politics, media bias, and accountability in public life.

The party also posted its Five-Point Agenda for 2029 — calling upon leaders of all opposition parties, supporters and social activists to stand behind the agenda. Its message: “It doesn’t matter which party you belong to, if you want to save democracy, support CJP2029.”

How to Join the Cockroach Janata Party?

The eligibility criteria as posted by the founder: Unemployed. Lazy. Chronically online. Ability to rant professionally. StarsUnfolded

To join — visit cockroachjantaparty.org and register on the website. You can also follow and engage on X at @CJP_2029.

Who Else Has Joined?

Politicians such as Mahua Moitra and Kirti Azad publicly expressed interest in becoming members.

The page crossed 15,000 followers on X within twenty-four hours. By the time the numbers stopped being updated publicly, membership had crossed 40,000. And according to the latest reports — sign-ups have crossed 80,000.

What Happened After the CJI Clarified?

The day after the remark went viral, CJI Surya Kant issued a statement saying the media had misquoted him. What he had specifically criticised, he explained, were those who had entered the legal profession using fake degrees and not the country’s youth at large. The Cockroach Janata Party thanked him for the update and continued registering members.

Why This Matters

India has millions of young people who are educated, online, politically aware and genuinely frustrated. When the head of the country’s highest court used the word cockroach to describe people who use RTI, journalism and social media to question institutions — it hit a nerve that was already raw.

The CJP taps into frustrations around politics, institutions, unemployment and digital activism — and whether the movement could eventually move beyond the internet is the real question now.

For now — 80,000 people have already answered the CJI’s remark in the only way Gen Z knows how.
