South Haryana Villages Are Fighting to Save the Aravallis: Hidden Haryana story
Forget Gurgaon’s skyscrapers. This is the story of how Aravalli Hills Mining is turning green villages into a dry, dusty nightmare.

When we talk about Haryana, most people think of Gurgaon. They think of big glass buildings, shiny malls, and fast highways. But there is another Haryana behind these big roads. This is the Hidden Haryana Stories that nobody shows on TV.
In South Haryana, aravalli hills are much closer to everyday life. They are around villages, farms, grazing land, (an area covered with grass, herbaceous plants, or shrubs where domestic or wild livestock roam to feed ponds and groundwater sources.) and now villagers of Bhiwani, Charkhi Dadri and Mahendragarh asking a very simple question: If these hills protect our future, who will protect these hills?
What is happening in the Aravalli region of Haryana?

For most people living in big cities, hills are just something they see from a car window during a holiday trip. But for village people, these hills are everything. They give grass for their cows, keep the weather nice, and save rain water underground.
But now, huge machines are cutting down these hills day and night. This heavy Aravalli Hills Mining is breaking the rocks into small stones to sell them for city buildings.
Recently, a special Supreme Court Committee Aravalli came directly to these villages. They wanted to see the ground reality of Aravalli Hills Mining and hear the problems of the poor farmers. What the villagers told them is very scary.
Ramalwas Village: No Water, Only Big Holes
In Ramalwas village, Aravalli Hills Mining has made life very difficult. Big bomb blasts are used to break the hills. Because of these heavy blasts, cracks are appearing on the walls of poor peoples’ houses. But the biggest danger is to their water.
Because companies dug hundreds of feet deep for Aravalli Hills Mining, it caused massive Groundwater Depletion in Haryana. The old wells and tube-wells of the farmers have completely dried up. If there is no water, how will a farmer grow food? How will the village survive?
The government stopped the work here in late 2024, but the damage is already done. Now, the villagers want the government to turn those deep, empty mining holes into rainwater tanks so they can store water when it rains.
Rajawas Village: Water is Now 2,000 Feet Deep!

In Rajawas village, the story is even worse. Villagers told the court committee that a piece of land which was marked as a ‘Protected Forest’ was secretly put up for auction. They wanted to give forest land to stone crushing companies for expanding Aravalli Hills Mining without even asking the local Village Panchayat!
The water situation here will shock you. A local villager told the committee that water in their village has gone down to 1,500 to 2,000 feet deep.
Think about it. A normal poor farmer cannot afford to dig a 2,000-feet deep borewell. It costs lakhs of rupees. Without water, their fields are turning into dry deserts.
Daily Struggle: Dust and Sickness
This heavy stone cutting is causing massive Environmental Damage due to Mining. For a normal family living next to these areas, it means:
- Thick white dust flying into their kitchens and bedrooms all day.
- Cough, asthma, and breathing problems in small kids and old people.
- Loud noise from blasts that shakes the ground.
- Broken village roads because of heavy trucks loaded with stones.
Farmers are now asking for a proper health checkup team from the government to visit every home and check the lungs of the kids.
Why Should You Care?
You might think, “I live far away in another city, why should I care about Haryana villages?” You should care because Aravalli Hills Mining destroys a big natural wall. These hills stop the hot desert sand of Rajasthan from coming towards Delhi and other green areas. They also act like a giant sponge that sucks rainwater and keeps the water level high in the whole region.
